GANDERBAL,
SEPTEMBER 13: The District Development Commissioner Ganderbal, Dr.
Piyush Singla today held a meeting with members of Road Safety Committee and
district officers for formulation and implementation of Road Safety Action
Plan to make travelling on roads safe and secure in the district.
The meeting
reviewed the prevailing scenario of road safety and steps being taken by
concerned authorities to create awareness among masses to reduce road accidents
and promote safe driving. Several decisions for achieving the goal of safe and
secure roads were also taken during the meeting.
Various points
were discussed in order to ensure that no life is lost or no untoward
incidences occur on roads. Measures to evade traffic congestion points like
schools, market areas etc were discussed threadbare. After threadbare
deliberations upon the issues, DDC gave on spot instructions to concerned line
departments.
DDC stressed for
immediate action for improving identified black spots, installation of
signages, painting of roads at appropriate spots, generation of awareness for
making the roads in the district safer. In order to restrict speeding vehicles
near schools and hospitals, DDC directed to identify the spots where speed
breakers are required for the safety of school going children and visitors
visiting hospitals.
He also directed
the Police authorities and traffic officials to regularly check overloading in
the buses across the district and to take strict action against the
violators in order to avoid road accidents.
He further
directed ARTO to organize road safety awareness programme in collaboration with
the Education Department to aware general public and students in schools
regarding traffic norms and road safety measures.
Police and
Municipal Committee authorities were instructed to remove vendors from
roadsides and footpaths particularly in congested market Places. He further
directed the EO Municipality to make regular drives to remove the encroachments
on the roads, which is an import factor of road accidents in the district.
In the meeting,
it was decided that Mini Bus owners will immediately remove ladders from buses
in weeks’ time in order to prevent passengers from travelling onto the rooftops
of buses.
PMGSY and BRO
authorities were also directed to install proper signage boards on all the
major roads in the district with a clear indication of the speed limit in
vulnerable areas.
ASP Ganderbal, CPO Ganderbal, ExEn R&B, ExEn PMGSY, ARTO Ganderbal,
EO Municipal Committee Ganderbal, Officer Commanding, Beacon, DySP Traffic
Ganderbal, among other concerned officers also attended the meeting.
