Kolkata, Mar 17: The West Bengal Government has taken up an initiative to preserve the glorious past of Bangarh.
The place, about 45 km from Balurghat in Dakshin Dinajpur district, contains relics ranging from the Mauryan era to the Muslim period.
They are spread over a radius of eight km.
Besides taking steps to preserve the ancient city, the State Government has taken measures to promote Bangarh as a tourist spot.
However, owing to lack of preservation and protection measures in the past, some valuable historical relics and evidences have been damaged or misplaced.
The current district administration has taken steps to stop theft of the relics, which can illegally fetch a good price in foreign countries. UNI
