Kolkata, Mar 17: The West Bengal Government has drawn up a master plan for developing the
premises of Tarakeswar Temple in Hooghly district.
The temple is one of the most popular in Bengal, and draws a
lot of pilgrims as well as tourists from outside the State as well.
It has a prominent historical legacy too.
Among the development initiatives to be taken up are improvement of the sewerage system, a regular cleaning mechanism for the adjacent ‘dudh pukur’, installation of LED lights, construction of a night shelter for pavement dwellers, and the construction of a multi-level car park and an auditorium for 1,000 people.
The government will spend Rs 74 crore for improving the entire drainage system of the area. For the night shelter, Rs one crore has been allocated.
The cumulative cost of implementing the master plan will be Rs 200 crore.
These details were provided by the State Urban Development and Municipal Affairs Minister, also the chairman of the Tarakeswar Development Board, set up last year by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for proper maintenance of the temple. UNI
