Leh, Jan 24 : As a part of “Beti Bachoa Beti Padhao Week” National Girl Child Day was observed in Leh at Sheynam Community Hall where DC/CEO LAHDC, Leh Sachin Kumar Vaishya was the chief guest on the occasion.
Director, Social Welfare Department, Ladakh, Mumtaz Ali, Councilors of LAHDC, Leh, ADC Leh, District Program Officer Leh, CMO Leh, SWO Leh, Sarpanches, members of Ama Tsogspa, staff and workers of ICDS and school girls were present on the occasion.
DC, Leh speaking on the occasion said that Beti Bachao Beti Padao programme launched on Jan 22, 2015 was an initiative to improve the declining sex ratio in different states of India. He said that in North-East and Ladakh women are already empowered and in better position as compare to other parts of the country but he stressed on women to think on achieving higher places in male dominant spaces like politics and other higher posts in different fields. He said that such program shouldn’t remain confined to celebrations but should show results on ground in creating a better future for the girl children in Ladakh.
Mumtaz Ali in his speech said that girls play a vital role in moving the society forward and we all must value girls. He said that in the last one decade girls related issues have seen great improvement but there is still a lot to do for their progress. He added that through BBBP program awareness is being created to change the mindsets of people specially at rural level to avoid discrimination between boy and girl and to provide good education, health and future to their daughters also.
The Ministry of Women and Child Development and the Government of India launched National Girl Child Day in 2008 with the objectives to spread awareness among people about all the inequalities faced by girls in the country, to promotes awareness about the rights of a girl child, to increase awareness on the importance of girl education, health and nutrition and ensure equal opportunities and exposure.
Miss Padma chuskit a student JNV, Leh spoke on the occasion about the importance of Girl Child, similarly Miss Padma Chosdon a student of Moriavian Mission School, Leh make a vigorous speech on the topic of Importance of celebrating Girl Child Day.
On the occasion, DC Leh felicitated the girls of Leh district in different field including Farhana Eliyas, recently bagged bronze middle in 3rd Khelo India Youth Games at Guwahati Assam, Mariyam Bano- 3rd position in 10th class (2019-20), Best NCC Cadet, 1st position in Chuna Hay Aasman (Singing Competition) of Govt. Girls Higher Sec. School Leh, Stanzin Yangskit - top position in 12th class (2019-20) in commerce stream from Govt. Hr. Sec. School Sumoor, Nobra, Yangchan, 12th class (2019-20) topper in Arts from Govt. Hr. Sec. School, Diskit, Nubra and the two speakers on the occasion Padma Chuskit of JNV School and Padma Chosdon of Moravian Mission School, Leh.
