Hangloo, enjoined upon the field functionaries to ensure that planned activities are carried upto grass root level for celebrating the month of September as National Nutrition Month (Rashtriya PoshanMaah) as part of the Jan Andolan under Poshan Abhiyan. He reiterated that the main objective to celebrate the Month of September as National Nutrition Month (Rashtriya PoshanMaah) is to raise awareness on the importance of nutrition for health which has an impact on development, productivity, economic growth and ultimately National development. Nutrition is an issue of survival, health and development for current and succeeding generations. Child born underweight have impaired immune function and increased risk of diseases such as diabetes and heart diseases in their later life.
He further added that to address the issue of malnutrition at an early age, it is necessary to create a mass movement to generate awareness. This requires a series of convergent and well-coordinated efforts in relevant sectors as malnutrition is an outcome of several sets of inadequacies and access to services.
The meeting was attended by District Programme Officer, ICDS Kargil, and CDPO’s of District Kargil amongst others.
