RAJOURI,
AUGUST 07: A series of awareness programmes were organised
in various Anganwari centres to mark Breast Feeding Week, a worldwide campaign
aimed at promoting exclusive breastfeeding among mothers.
The
awareness programmes were supervised and guided by Project Officer ICDS
Mohammad Rashid and Child Development Project Officer AuquilNuvaid. Teams
comprising Nutrition & Health Mobilizer Priyanka Gupta and Supervisors
Basharat Hussain Madiha Mir, Rukhsana Imtiaz, Azhra Begum, Tehseen Akhtar,
Yasmeen Bukhari and others made aware lactating and pregnant women about health
benefits of breastfeeding the newborn.
Awareness
programmes were held at Palma, Loorkote, Dassal, Rajouri town, Fatehpur and
Thudi, which witnessed active participation of Anganwari workers and helpers
from all Anganwari centres of CDPO block Rajouri. Lactating and pregnant women
were mobilised to these programmes and provided IEC material regarding benefits
of breastfeeding. On 7th day of week a mega awareness programme was organised
at Dhanore.
Nutrition
and Health Mobiliser Priyanka Gupta, on the occasion, deliberated on
breastfeeding and said it’s the foundation of lifelong good health for babies
and mothers. She educated the women on initiation of breastfeeding, physiology
of lactation, bonding between mother and baby and nutritional value of breast
milk.
She added that breastfeeding is beneficial for
infants, mothers and the community and has the potential to reduce mortality
and morbidity during the infancy due to malnutrition.
