KISHTWAR, AUGUST 07: District Development Commissioner Angrez Singh Rana today chaired a meeting of District Road Safety Committee to review the Road Safety Action Plan (2018-2020).
The meeting was attended by District Road Safety Committee members comprising ADC, CPO, XENs R&B, XENs PMGSY, ARTO, Dy. SP(HQ) , I/c CEO, Dy. CMO,  OC GREF, besides other officers.
At the outset, ARTO Kishtwar Abhay Indu Sharma presented  in detail various objectives  of  District Road Safety Action Plan (2018-2020 ) through Power Point Presentation. The Plan envisages creation of District road safety corpus fund, improving of road marking and signage, road safety Audit and implementation of recommendations on State highways and other roads, identification of black spots, elimination of  high risk stretches , improvement of junctions on state highways and  other roads, developing of a model stretch  of safe highway on an accident prone stretch,  initiatives regarding imparting education on Road Safety, Health Checkups points for drivers, establishment of Road Safety Clubs in Schools/ Colleges, universities and establishment of trauma care facilities etc.
After threadbare deliberations, the DDC issued instructions to concerned line departments to formulate their respective action plan in consultation with ARTO and project the year wise requirement of funds.
He directed EO Municipal Committee to remove all hoardings falling along side of roads which may cause inconvenience and seem to be objects of distraction for safe driving. 
He further laid emphasis on giving wide publicity to Road Safety measures in schools, colleges, universities through co-curricular activities, video clips, puppet shows, painting,  poster competition, rallies in collaboration with Department of Transport, Information, School Education, Health and Police.
The DDC directed GREF to ensure the implementation of Ribbon Development Act in letter and spirit to prevent and remove encroachments  on roads, pathways and pedestrian paths. The DDC also proposed  to develop Kishtwar to Dool  a model of safe highway stretch. He further directed the concerned heads of the line departments to conduct Road Safety Audit and mapping of roads at an earliest and  identify two streets in the town as traffic free zones.
The DDC further passed directions to the Health department to explore the possibilities of  establishment of Trauma Care centres at Chatroo, Kishtwar, Padder and submit financial requirement. Further, DDC directed to deploy ambulance on national highway and sensitize rural areas by imparting free medical Aid training to locals.
