SRINAGAR, JUNE 28: Continuing
its drive to eradicate the fake handicrafts items, the enforcement wing of the
Quality Control Division of Handicrafts Department
conducted inspections of Handicrafts dealers of Kashmir &
Jammu division.
During the course of inspection, the teams during the
month of June-2018 realized an amount of Rs. 20,000/- from the different
tourist location like Pahalgam, Sonmarg, Gulmarg, Dal area, Katra and Jammu
city, on account of Registration/Renewal fee and fine. The fine is enforced to
those dealers who sell non-handmade Handicrafts artifacts in the name of
Kashmiri items.
The authorities have
warned the erring dealers to desist from selling fake machine-made items
in the name of Kashmir Art and get their business establishments registered
under Tourist Trade Act 1978 with the quality control wing of the
department. They are also advised to affix tags depicting price and other
specification on the goods displayed for sale and also issue cash memos to the
customers. In case violation of the Tourist Trade Act, action as warranted
under the law shall be initiated against such erring dealers.
