JAMMU, JUNE 29: Keeping up with
the tradition, Directorate of Economics and Statistics, J&K, through
Regional Directorate of Evaluation and Statistics, Jammu celebrated the 12th
National Statistics Day on the theme “Quality assurance in Official
Statistics”.
National
Statistics Day is celebrated to mark birth anniversary of Prof P.C. Mahalanobis
for his significant role in the study of socio- economic contours of India
which has been extremely useful till date for the government in taking
decisions regarding the policies having direct impact on the country's
population.
Veena Thapar,
Director, Directorate of Economics and Statistics, elaborated upon the
importance of the theme in day-today official work. She stressed upon the need
of quality, reliable and up to-date statistics to properly inform government
and citizens about policy decisions. She added that if the statistics are to be
used to the greatest advantage, they must be of high quality, credible and
trusted.
Earlier, Rajni
Charak, Regional Director, E&S, Jammu presented welcome address and
highlighted the role of Late Prof P C Mahalanobis in' the field of Statistics.
She said that statistical data of the country have been extremely useful to the
government in taking informed decisions regarding policies which have impact on
the entire country.
Among others
present on the occasion were Ashu Gupta, Joint Director, STS, Jammu, Assistant
Directors of RD, DSE & STS, CPOs & DSEOs of various districts, Training
Batch Statistical Assistants of Jammu Division and members of Statistical
fraternity.
Gurneet Kour, Assistant Director, Regional Directorate, managed the
stage, Lalit Bhat, Assistant Director, Regional Directorate, presented the vote
of thanks.
