Nainital, May 18: At least 11 pilgrims were killed when a speeding dumper crushed them in Champawat district of Uttarakhand on Friday morning.
The incident occurred at 0500 hrs when the devotees were proceeding towards Poonagiri temple.
Nineteen people were injured of which eight are stated to be critical and admitted to a hospital in Khatima.
According to Senior Superintendent of Police Dhirendra Gunjal, the pilgrims were carrying the deity's palanquin from Nawabganj, Bareilly. While nine people died on the spot, 21 others were injured.
Police and the Army reached the accident site and rushed the injured to a hospital where two succumbed to their injuries. The families of the victims have been informed about the accident.
The deceased have been identified as Veer Singh(18), Sonu (18), Vishal(17), Rajkumar(35), Deendayal(35), Babu(12), Keshar SIngh(16), Ramswarup(40), and Sohan(40). Two bodies are yet to identified. UNI
