Red Cross Day observed at HSS Kothi Bagh'
SRINAGAR,
MAY 08: Secretary School Education, Farooq Ahmed Shah today said the government
will constitute Red Cross Committees in all the educational institutions of the
State.
He made
these remarks during a state-level function to mark the World Red Cross Day at
Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Kothibagh. He said the aim of the
initiative is to train students in providing first aid to people caught in
disaster.
"Education
Department can play vital role in producing best Red Cross volunteers from the
schools. Proper guidelines should be issued shortly to all the heads of the
educational institutions for expending the amount being raised as Red Cross
fund," Shah said, who was chief guest on the occasion, said.
The
theme of this year's day is "Everywhere for every one smile". The function
started with a flag hoisting ceremony by chief guest followed by a prayer
ceremony attended by the students of the school.
While
paying tributes to Dunant Henri, the founder of the Red Cross, the Secretary
Education said Henri dedicated himself to serve humanity and the society must
follow the teachings of such men.
He said
the State Red Cross Society is playing yeoman's role in serving the people of
the State in disaster and other eventualities. He said the World Red Cross Day
is being celebrated to make people aware on how to get relief during natural
calamities and other disasters.
The
Secretary appreciated the commendable work of the Red Cross volunteers of
Ramban district who saved many lives of Shri AmarnathjiYatries at Banihal last
year when their bus rolled down and they were crying for help. He felicitated
the 35 volunteers by given them mementos.
On the
occasion, General Secretary Jammu and Kashmir Red Cross Muhammad Shafi Rather
highlighted the importance of the day. He said the main aim of the activities
of the Red Cross was to serve the humanity.
Rather
said the day makes the people aware on how to save lives by providing
assistance during disaster conditions.

Mir, who is the Executive Director of the J&K Voluntary Health and Development
Association, Principal, Girls Hr. Sec. School Kothibagh, Romana Qazi, staff of
SP Hr. Sec School and Kothibagh Hr Sec School, guests from ICRS, volunteers
from Ramban and large number of students were present.
On the
occasion, master trainers of Indian Red Cross and students of Higher Secondary
School, Kothibagh, carried out mock drills about life saving and providing
first aid, which was hailed by the audience.
Renowned announcer Fayaz Ahmad Fayaz was the presenter of the programme.
