Thiruvananthapuram, May 4: Rajya Sabha member V Muralidharan has alleged a conspiracy in government's decision to cremate the body of Latvian woman, who was drugged and raped before being killed at a mangrove forest in Kovalam in March last.
The government's decision is to prevent her family taking the body back home and conducting a fresh autopsy which could throw up fresh evidences in the Latvian tourist murder case.
Talking to newspersons here, Mr Muralidharan, who was also former State President of BJP in Kerala, alleged that the new evidences could put the Kerala Government in bad light, hence the cremation was a ploy to close the case in a haste without detailed investigation.
Alleging that the the family members of Latvian woman were threatened to protect the Government from getting bad name, the Rajya Sabha member also reminded the family's allegation that the police was botching the probe.
"The body was also cremated against the order of State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) which said that it must be buried as per the Christian custom," BJP District President Advocate S Suresh quoting Mr Muralidharan said in a release here.
He also alleged that the 'cremation was an idea' of the CPI (M) Government to sabotage the probe. "The Commission issued the order at 1500 hrs and the DGP office received it at 1550 hrs. At that time the funeral has not taken place. But, the authorities cremated the body later," he pointed out.
Reacting to the serious allegation, State Tourism Minister Kadakampally Surendran said the BJP was playing cheap politics and the SHRC was also playing to their tune.
He said Umesh (28) and Udayan (24) who have been undergoing police questioning for the last few days, were arrested on Thursday and circumstantial evidences proved their involvement in the crime.
Meanwhile, Police will produce both the arrested before the court here on Friday for taking them in custody for further interrogation in the case, sources said. UNI
