Srinagar, May 11: Moderate Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Moulvi Umar Farooq was on Friday placed under house in the summer capital, Srinagar.
Separatist organisation head chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani remained under house arrest while separatist leader Mohammad Yasin Malik remained lodged in Central Jail, Srinagar.
A spokesperson for moderate HC told UNI that paramilitary and state police personnel were on Friday morning deployed outside the Nigeen residence of Mirwaiz, who was informed that he has been placed under house arrest.
However, official sources said Mirwaiz was placed under house arrest to prevent him from leading protests after Friday prayers.
The main gates of historic Jamia Masjid, stronghold of Mirwaiz, were closed as a precautionary measure to prevent any demonstrations after prayers.
Another separatist organisation, comprising of Geelani, Mirwaiz and Malik, had called for peaceful protests after prayers against the recent civilian killings.
