Srinagar, May 9: Mobile internet service of all cellular companies was restored in central Kashmir districts of Srinagar, Badgam and Ganderbal after remaining suspended for three days to prevent spread of rumours.
However, mobile internet of all companies, including Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), remained suspended as a precautionary measure to prevent spread of rumours on social networking sites in south Kashmir, where five Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) militants were killed in an encounter with security forces on Sunday when six youth also died during subsequent clashes.
Official sources said that mobile internet and broadband service has been snapped in south Kashmir, including in Shopian since Sunday morning after eruption of encounter at Imam Sahib.
The mobile internet services of all cellular companies was resumed in Srinagar. The service was suspended following an encounter which ensued between militants and security forces at Rampora Chattabal area of the city on Saturday morning. Three militants of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) were killed in the encounter and a youth died after a police vehicle ran over him in the downtown during stone pelting.
However, broadband internet service of BSNL and point to point service of other providers were functioning normally though with very slow speed in Srinagar.
Mobile internet service, which was suspended in central Kashmir districts of Ganderbal and Badgam on Sunday, also resumed. However, it was functioning normally in north Kashmir, they added. UNI
