Srinagar, May 4: Barring Pulwama and
Shopian, life returned to normal on Friday after remaining crippled for a day
on Friday due to a strike against the death of a youth in security force action
near an encounter site on Wednesday.
Though there was no strike call by any separatist organisation, shops
and business establishments remained closed and traffic was off the roads for
the second successive day on Friday in Pulwama and Shopian. However, life
returned to normal in Anantnag and Kulgam, where business and other activities
resumed on Friday. But, additional security forces have been deployed to
prevent any untoward incident across south Kashmir. Security also remained
tight along the Srinagar-Jammu national highway to prevent any protests.
All educational institutes remained closed in Pulwama and Shopian while work in government offices and banks was affected. Meanwhile, schools reopened in Anantnag and Kulgam though majority of the students preferred to stay indoors.
A youth died and several others were injured when security forces opened fire and burst teargas shells to disperse demonstrators, who hit streets to disrupt operation against holed up militants in Shopian on Wednesday. The militants later managed to escape. UNI
