Bengaluru, Apr 19: BJP Chief Ministerial nominee B S Yeddyurappa entered the electoral arena for the May 12 Assembly polls in Karnataka as the process of filing nomination gained momentum on Thursday with candidates rushing to the respective Returning Offices to tender their papers..
Mr Yeddyurappa arrived at the returning officer's premises after a massive rally and was accompanied by Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh, Union Minister Ananth Kumar, son B Y Raghavendra and Lok Sabha member B Sriramulu.
Former Deputy Chief Minister and senior BJP leader K S Eshwarappa filed his nomination for Shivamogga constituency.
Karnataka Minister and Congress leader D K Shivakumar filed his nomination to retain his seat Kanakapura. Before filing nomination he offered prayer at Kabbalamma Temple and spreading his towel he sought funds from the public for deposit money needed for contesting. He also sought blessings of controversial Nityananda Swami at his Bidadi Mutt.
BJP's sitting Legislators Y A Narayanaswamy and Vijayaq Kumar filed their nomination from Hebbal and Jayanagar respectively. Former BJP Minister Katta Subramaniya Naidu filed his papers in Shivajinagar.
Congress candidate V Muniyappa filed his nomination for Shidalaghatta seat, while JD(S) leader Suresh Gowda filed nomination for Ngamangala seat.
On the opening day 29 candidates had filed their nomination and yesterday being holiday due to Basavajayanthi there were no nomination filed.
April 24 is the last date for filing nomination, while scrutiny will be taken up on April 25, withdrawal is allowed till April 27.  UNI
