Siliguri, Apr 11: The management of Manjha tea garden here has announced suspension of work for indefinite period rendering some few hundreds workers jobless in this tea belt areas of north Bengal district.
The workers, who went to attend the day's job on Tuesday found the main gate was locked and a notice hung in front announcing the suspension of work for indefinite period till further a notice on the work.
The provident fund authorities recently filed a complaint with the Naxalbari police station alleged that the tea garden authorities have due more than Rs 65 lakh on account of PF and Gratuity.
The management also did not pay salary for past two weeks, as the payment is made in every end of the current week as it practiced in the tea belt.
Joint labour commissioner, Siliguri, Chandan Dasgupta said that a meeting was to be held today with the management for reopening of the garden. UNI
