New Delhi, Apr 19: The BJP on Thursday slammed the
Congress for 'reckless allegations’’ made by it against its party leadership in
the matter of the death of judge B H Loya in Nagpur in 2014 who was hearing the
Sohrabuddin Sheikh shoot out case.
Attacking Congress president Rahul Gandhi, Union Law Minister
Ravi Shankar Prasad urged him not to ``fight political battles through
courts’’.
"The BJP condemns with all the authority at its command the reckless allegations made against the party president in the course of proceedings,’’ Mr Prasad said here.
``The Supreme Court has observed that political battles must be fought on political grounds. It clearly means that the case was fought as a political battle against our party president Amit Shah,’’ he said.
Reacting to the Supreme Court dismissing the petitions, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh tweeted, "On the basis of false allegations, efforts are being made to defame the BJP and its top leaders. It is clear today that the judiciary can not be made the political battleground.’’
The Supreme Court on Thursday dismissed petition seeking Special Investigation Team probe into the death of Judge Loya maintaining that there was no merit in it and the judge had met a ``natural death’’.
Meanwhile, the CPI-M demanded that the case be heard by a larger bench of the apex court.
"The circumstances of Judge Loya's death raised several questions. The CPI-M holds that the matter should be reviewed by a larger bench of the Supreme Court," it said. UNI
