JAMMU, APRIL 02: Deputy Speaker, Jammu and Kashmir Legislative
Assembly, Nazir Ahmad Gurezi today appealed the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi
and Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari to take up
construction on a tunnel between Bandipora and Gurez to provide the area with
all year connectivity.
The Deputy Speaker said that the area remains
disconnected for several months in winters, causing immense hardship to the
people of the area. He demanded the centre government for constructing a tunnel
between Banipora and Gurez to ensure all-weather connectivity to the area.
Gurezi said that better connectivity will open
avenues for further development of the area besides opening the highly
potential area for tourist footfall.
Gurezi also asked the State government to take this
important issue with the centre government on priority to save the people of
the far-flung area from inconveniences caused due to being cut off from rest of
the country for several months.
Pertinently, residents of Gurez sub-district in
north Kashmir’s Bandipora district are on protest from last week
seeking tunnel connectivity to their area which remains cut-off from rest of
Valley during six months every year.
