Lucknow, Apr 2: After the success of the ''Aarakshan Bachchao Maharally" in Lucknow on Sunday, rebel BJP Member of Parliament Savitri Bai Phule on Monday said she can go to any extent for demanding rights of the Dalits.
"I don't care whether my Lok Sabha membership remains or not but I will continue on my path to fight for the cause of the Dalits," she told UNI on Monday.
Though she was very careful not to mention a word against the Narendra Modi government nor make any comment on the Samajwadi Party- Bahujan Samaj Party alliance in UP polls, Ms Phule said she is a BJP MP and will continue to stand with the party.
"I have already raised the issue of Dalits in the party forum and in the Lok Sabha several times. I am a staunch follower of Dr B R Ambedkar and will do whatever required to get the rights of the Dalits given in the Constitution," she added.
Though without taking any names, she attacked the Centre as well as the state governments for denying the right to the Dalits to fill the government posts reserved for them.
"Against the reservation quota of 23 per cent, the government was only going for 19 per cent reservation though in most of the government offices and departments, not 50 per cent of the quote posts are filled. Similar was in the case of OBCs where against the 27 per cent reservation, only around 21 per cent are being given and there are too huge backlogs in the posts of the government department," she said.
The BJP MP from Bahriach also defended the Dalit agitation in the country on Monday over the SC ruling to dilute the SC/ST Act.
"Everyone has the right to defend the Constitutional obligations," she said.
She added that if any attempt was made to curtail reservation for SC/ST and Backwards blood will flow on the streets as she would lead an agitation demanding implementation of reservation as per the spirit of Indian Constitution. UNI
