New Delhi, Apr 2: On a day when several states witnessed incidents of rioting and arson after
Dalits protested the alleged attempt by government to dilute SC-ST Prevention
of Atrocities Act, the BJP leaders and Union Ministers on Monday directed their
tirade against Congress and even Third Front calling them "political
vultures".
The BJP also accused that the erstwhile Third Front regime
with outside support of Congress in 1997 had taken away the promotional
benefits of SC/ST employees.
"As soon as some friction happens, our political vultures immediately come out to extract political advantage. We expected nothing better from Sh Rahul Gandhi. All that he & his party has done & can do, is to exploit the Dalits for petty political gains,' tweeted BJP general secretary Bhupender Yadav, also a trusted aide of BJP national chief Amit Shah.
Joining issue with Congress president Rahul Gandhi for his tweet earlier in the day that it is in the 'DNA of RSS/BJP' to keep Dalits in the "lowest rung", and those who oppose this, are violently suppressed, Union Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Arjun Ram Meghawal said: "Speaking of DNA, it is imperative to remind the nation what Rahul Gandhi's DNA is about - Humiliated Babasaheb repeatedly. Ensured the defeat of Babasaheb, not once but twice. Did not give a Bharat Ratna to Babasaheb.'
He also alleged that the Congress party did not even give space for Babasaheb's portrait in Parliament.
Condemning the 'shocking comment' by the Congress president for raking up the 'DNA' among others of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Mr Meghawal said, 'It is a well known that PM Modi belongs to the lower section of society and this is something Rahul Gandhi cannot digest.'
The Rajya Sabha MP Mr Bhupender Yadav charged Congress with allegedly trying to 'divide the country', saying since 2014, 'Dalits of our country have clearly rejected them in state after state'.
"Be it Rohit Vemula or any other issue, Sh Rahul Gandhi has always tried to divide Indians. 'But Dalits have very well recognised this game. Since 2014, Dalits of our country have clearly rejected them in state after state," he posted in the micro blogging site.
Mr Yadav reiterated BJP’s commitment to SC-ST community's welfare and said in 2001, the Vajpayee Government specially amended Article 16 (4A) to ensure proper benefits to SC/ST employees.
"In fact, it was the Third Front -Congress govt of 1997 that took away promotional benefits of SC/ST employees,' he said in another tweet.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar assured that the Narendra Modi government was was 100 per cent on the side of the Scheduled Castes community.
Union Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Dr Thawarchand Gehlot also tweeted that successive governments did not put trust on people of backward castes when it came to lending. 'With initiatives like Stand Up India & Mudra, people of backward castes are empowered to become entrepreneurs,' he said.
Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Mr Meghwal said Opposition's nervousness was due to the never before seen nation-wide supports of backward castes to Modi government. 'The number of SC and ST MPs from the BJP at the highest. No party has given so many opportunities to the SC and ST communities as the BJP has,' he said.
Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said the central government was not a party in the case on SC/ST Protection Act. But it does not agree with the reasoning given by Supreme Court and has therefore filed a comprehensive review petition.
"The Modi government and the BJP is fully committed to the welfare of SC/STs," he said.
In its verdict on a petition filed by a Maharashtra Government employee challenging the Bombay High Court order, the Supreme Court court said an accused would not be arrested automatically based on a FIR that he or she cast aspersion on a Dalit. UNI
