New Delhi, Apr 2: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has attached immovable property worth Rs15
crore of former Chief Engineer Awadhesh Prasad Singh of Minor Irrigation
Department of Bihar, an official release said here on Monday.
The probing agency move came after the FIR registered under
prevention of corruption act by the Special Vigilance Unit of Bihar in 2008.
During the investigation conducted by ED under Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), it was revealed that Awadhesh Prasad Singh has amassed huge properties in his own name as well as in the name of his family members while posted and functioning in different capacities and different posts during the period of January 1980 to December 2007 which is beyond his known sources of income.
He was not in a position to satisfactorily account the said pecuniary resources and properties.
It is also revealed that huge properties in the name of his son, Sourav were acquired in Bangalore. At the time of acquisition of these properties, huge amount of cash was paid the source of which source could not be explained by them during the investigation.
Investigation also revealed that Benami property was purchased in the name of mother-in-laws of Singh which was subsequently shown as gifted to his son Sourav and Sandeep.
“Awadhesh Prasad was assisted by a contractor and a builder Hari Madhav Developers Pvt Ltd from his native village in money laundering and their role and extent of money laundered by them is under investigation of agency”, the release said. UNI
