SHOPIAN, APRIL 14: Baisakhi festival was celebrated with religious
fervour and gaiety in Shopian with many prayer functions and fairs held across
the district today.
Gurdwaras were highly decorated and special prayers
were offered by a large number of devotees at various places. Pertinently, the
day also marks the birth of ‘Khalsa Panth’.
The district administration had made elaborate
security arrangements for smooth conduct of the festival.
District Development Commissioner Shopian, Gazanfar
Ali, who visited a Gurdwara to felicitate the Sikh brethren, said
that Government has initiated necessary measures for undertaking the inclusive
and sustained development of the district on an equitable basis.
A mela was also held showcasing the rich cultural
heritage of the district including folk songs, dances, and devotional songs.
People from all sections of society participated in the procession in their
traditional attires depicting the varied culture of the district.
