Puducherry, Apr 2: AIADMK legislators in the Union Territory on Monday staged a dharna in front of
Raj Nivas for not constituting the Cauvery Management Board (CMB) by the Centre.
Alleging that the Lt.Governor Kiran Bedi had rejected the
file sent to her by the government seeking permission to file a contempt of
court case against the Union government for its failure to constitute the
Cauvery Management Board (CMB), three of the four AIADMK legislators
–Anbazhagan,Bhaskar and Vayyapuri Manikandan- resorted to a dharna in front of
the main gate of Rajnivas.
They shouted slogans demanding setting up of the CMB forthwith.
Meanwhile, about 50 volunteers of the Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam were arrested when they picketed the Income Tax office here to condemn the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre for its failure to set up the CMB.
Functioning of the courts in Puducherry were also affected in view of the lawyers boycott and staged a demonstration on the main road in front of the Court complex here on the same cause. UNI
