Siliguri, Mar 17: Zoomcar, India’s first 100 per cent shared mobility platform, has launched its
services here.
Prior to the launch, Zoomcar has witnessed a large traction from residents and tourists demanding for self-drive cars here.
In the span of five years, the company has successfully achieved around 30 lakh happy customers, ten lakh trips and 3000 cars under its fleet.
Within a few days of its pilot run in the city, Zoomcar has got around 1000 enquiries in the city.
Starting with owning around 20 cars in Siliguri, ranging from Hatchback – Ford Figo, Maruti Swift; SUVs – Hyundai Creta, Mahindra Scorpio and Sedan – Ford Aspire, Zoomcar sees the potential of having more than 100 cars within 2018.
Siliguri is a tourism gateway to the North Bengal Hills, Zoomcar will largely focus on incoming tourists through Bagdogra airport and New Jalpaiguri railway stations which contributes to around 60 per cent of the booking as they are looking for affordable and convenient option to explore relatively offbeat destinations such as Mirik, Kurseong, Darjeeling in Bengal as well as numerous destinations in Sikkim such as Gangtok, Pelting and Ravangla.
The Zoomcar parking has been strategically chosen in the city with proximity to both the airport and the railway station.
Speaking on the launch, Greg Moran, CEO & Co-founder, Zoomcar, said, “With a lot of travelers coming to this part of the country, Siliguri will be key market for us. With our presence here, we have covered 28 metro and non-metro cities across India. The adoption in our existing markets has been overwhelming, and we expect a similar path of growth and acceptance in the new markets that we are launching. '
' In Siliguri, we are bringing gambit of our services in the city where majority of tourists also come from nearby destinations Kolkata and Guwahati. Our average fleet utility is more than 60%. We see an enormous potential in the city and can easily envision it becoming a 50-car market for us, within next 6 months. We are already having about 5000 registered users in Siliguri, ' he added.
Zoomcar will be looking to collaborate with local tourism board which will further enhance a better opportunity for locals and travellers.
The North Bengal Hills provide a lot of opportunity for Tea Tourism along with lot of upcoming adventure sport activities.
The existing customer base of Zoomcar being very young with 80 per cent users being below 25 would be looking forward to these unique experiences.
The Tourism Department has announced a separate focus on developing Home Stays in the region which is another natural avenue of collaboration for Zoomcar as public transport is challenging to develop in hilly regions and self-drive providing a simple and convenient solution.
Users can book vehicles starting as low as INR 70/hour inclusive of fuel for a 5 Km/hour fuel package or choose from more flexible options of 10 and 20 Km/hour for self-drive renting on an hourly, weekly and monthly basis. UNI
