Mar 24: Both the militants, who were holed up since last night in a
village, were killed by security forces in a fierce encounter in south Kashmir
district of Anantnag on Saturday morning, official sources said.
They said on a tip off about the presence of militants troops
of Rashitriya Rifles (RR), Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir
police and CRPF launched a joint search operation at village Shishtragam,
Dooru, in Anantnag district late Friday night.However, when the area was being sealed militants hiding there opened fire with automatic weapons, they told adding security forces also retaliated ensuing an encounter.
Additional security forces were immediately rushed to the area from nearby camps, sources told adding the entire area has been sealed to foil any attempt by militants to escape.
With the first light this morning security forces launched a major offensive and killed both the holed up militants.
A police spokesman said the identity of both the militant was being ascertained. Large cache of arms and ammunition were recovered from the slain militants, he said adding there was no collateral damage during the encounter which has now ended.
Meanwhile, authorities have snapped mobile internet in Anantnag and Kulgam districts as a precautionary measure to prevent spread of any rumours. UNI
