Agartala, Mar 31: Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb called for technology transfer from Japan for construction of multi-storied high rises to achieve optimum utilization of land in Tripura.
Addressing the inauguration of a technical session of Indian Building Congress here, Deb pointed out despite being repeatedly hit by earthquake, loss of life and property in Japan is minimum but in our case it is just the reverse.
“I want to replicate Japanese technology for multi-storied buildings in the state,” Deb opined.
He said proper utilization of land resource is essential, as Tripura is having limited landmass. But the state has no permission to build more than five floor building and added, “I have approached investors to start business here but everyone wants land within 10 km of Agartala city, which we don’t have. Where will I find the land?”
“Japan is having multi storied buildings with their unique technology despite the country being in high quake prone zone. I want to bring that technology and adopt it to build 8-10 storied buildings and beyond, even though the state falls in seismic zone,” he said.
Criticizing the last government, Deb said Agartala city was not built in a scientific way. There is neither proper drainage system, nor scientific roadways. The centre has pumped huge fund for building smart city but there is no master plan of the city.
“The present government has given highest priority to urban development activities including proper drainage and sewerage system, transport system and green planning of the city. Agartala witnessed severe water-logging problem in last monsoon several times due to unplanned development and weakness in management. We want to overcome that,” he added. UNI
