New Delhi, Mar 28: The NDA constituent Shiv Sena on Wednesday justified the party leaders meeting
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee saying Trinamool Congress president
has been a part of NDA earlier and that she was "not an untouchable".
"Koi achhut nahi hae na Mamataji (Mamata Banerjee is not an untouchable)," Sena leader Sanjay Raut told reporters here.
"If our Prime Minister Narendra Modi can meet Nawaz Sharif in Pakistan then why can't we meet Mamata ji? She is an Indian and the Chief Minister of a large state," he said referring to his meeting with Trinamool Congress chief here.
Moreover, Mr Raut said, Mamata Banerjee has been an important NDA leader in the past. "If she was part of the NDA today then what would have happened," asked Mr Raut.
Meanwhile, BJP leader and Uttar Pradesh Minister Sidharth Nath Singh, who was once BJP co-incharge of West Bengal, took a dig at Ms Banerjee trying to play a big role in national politics.
"Mamata’s dream of cobbling anti-BJP front is like a mirage. Proof of pudding would be if she can stitch one of Left, Congress and TMC in Bengal first," he tweeted. UNI
