Srinagar, Mar 28: Asserting that countering gun with gun is not the only way to deal with the
situation in Kashmir, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti said ‘the problem is that
even our own country has left us alone’.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister appealed the people of rest of
the country to come forward and apply healing touch on the wounds of Kashmiris,
who have been the victims of tough times.
Ms Mehbooba further asserted that Jammu and Kashmir is the safest place for women in the world.
Appealing the members of country’s tourism industry to clear the negative perceptions about Jammu and Kashmir in their respective markets, Ms Mehbooba said the State has gone through a phase of enormous violence during the last three decades or so for which people here need healing touch.
“Government alone cannot do that, you have to do partnership with us. The people here have been the victims of tough times of the past which bruised them immensely but have remained unmatched in their hospitality and warmth,” Me Mehbooba said after inaugurating the 64th convention of Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI) here Tuesday evening.
Asking the tourism fraternity of the country to come forward and help in further improving tourist footfall in the State, she said this will enhanced people to people contact.
Hitting out at a section of media for blowing things out of proportion in Kashmir, Ms Mehbooba said, “I bet that as we are sitting here, TV news channels would be depicting an encounter happening in a remote place in the valley as if the entire Kashmir was burning. And such portrayal has affected tourism not only in Kashmir, but even in Jammu region also. A tourist visiting Kashmir gets calls from the family and friends to enquire if he or she is alright, because they have watched on NewsX, Republic TV or Times Now that the situation was very bad in the valley… which is far from reality.” UNI
