Agartala, Mar 31: The public utility services have been disrupted in Tripura after a Norwester hit last evening while the met office forecast warned of a squall across the state within the next two days.
According to forecast, scattered to fairly widespread rain and thundershowers are very likely to occur over northeast and adjoining part of eastern India during next four days, with peak activity till tomorrow.
The state disaster management unit has also issued alert for sudden hit of thunderstorm. In the last 24 hours Tripura received about 30 MW rainfalls and the temperature dropped down below normal.
The power transmission system suffered severely after a gusty storm hit last evening leading to power cut. According to report, a transmission line from R C Nagar to Kumarghat had been snapped due to storm and that resulted in power cut in the entire Unokoti district last night.
The power transmission from Palatana to Bangladesh was also affected yesterday and Bangladesh was able to draw only 15 MW power out of its allocation of 150 MW due to disruption in the transmission system.
The thunderstorm uprooted trees and snapped overhead electric wires in the city and its fringes obstructing traffic movement in many places. Tree branches fell on overhead wire disrupting the power supply.
Two persons were injured in the storm. Agartala Municipal Corporation authorities will take at least a day to clean the road. The storm and rains caused widespread damage to the crops. The thunderstorm affected telecommunication service and water supply in many parts of the state. UNI
