Bengaluru, Mar 22: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) members led by its Working President
Dinesh Gundurao on Thursday took out a protest rally from its office to Income
Tax office in the city alleging that the BJP led NDA government at the Centre
is misusing the offices of Income Tax and Central Bureau of Investigation and
conducting raids targeting Congress leaders and Ministers.
The protest rally was taken out even as powerful
and influential Congress leader and Minister for Energy D K Shivakumar and his
brother, D K Suresh, a Lok Sabha member appeared before the Enforcement
Directorate for questioning in connection with the documents recovered during
recent raid by IT sleuths in the city and elsewhere in the State in connection
with complaints received about they amassing assets disproportionate to their
known source of income.
Meanwhile, Mr Shivakumar has filed an application for anticipatory bail through his Advocate Seshachala and he stated that his client was not present during the raid. He was shocked when the IT officials came to Egaleton residence and in that connection he (Shivakumar) had destroyed some papers without destroying any of the evidence.
Advocate Prabhulinga Navadagi, appearing for ED, in his argument urged the Court not to grant bail as there is necessary for custodial interrogation in the case and moreover Mr Shivakumar has destroyed the documents in front of raiding officers and if bail is granted there is all possibility of the accused further destroying the documents.
The Special Court Judge, after hearing from both the sides, has reserved his verdict for 3 PM this afternoon. UNI
