Mar 6: Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences (BIMS) Director S T Kalasad
said that the Immunization protocol implemented by World Health Organisation
(WHO) is most useful, cost effective program and has tremendously reduced the
mortality and morbidity among the children across the globe.
Speaking after inaugurating the Scientific Update on” Malaysian National
Immunization for Malaysian medical students “ organised by Department of
Paediatrics at KLE Centenary Charitable Hospital, Yellur on Tuesday, he said
that Immunization is a proven tool for controlling and eliminating
life-threatening infectious diseases and is estimated to avert between 2 and 3
million deaths each year. It is the most cost effective health investments
stressed, he added.
Dr Kalsad appreciated the Malaysian Government initiative of immunising over 95 per cent of its population.
He congratulated the efforts of Malaysian Government for eradicating polio way back in 1986.
Speaking on the occasion, District Surgeon Dr Khaji underlined that personal hygiene, sanitation and environmental cleanliness are the key factors in prevention of diseases. He called on the young medicos to educate the masses on these fundamental issues.
Stating that refusing to accept for vaccination on religious grounds is not a good trend.
Dr Khaji advised the parents to come forward and vaccinate their child which prevents them from majority of the infectious diseases.
Presiding over the function Dr H B Rajasekhar, Director USM-KLE stated administering right dose of vaccination at right time and further at periodical intervals will prevent child being infected by communicable disease. UNI
