JAMMU, MARCH 02: Governor N.N. Vohra has conveyed greetings on the
occasion of “World Wild Life Day”
which is observed on 3rd March
every year.
In his message, Governor has observed that the
celebration of the World Wildlife Day in
J&K provides us a valuable opportunity of raising awareness about the
varied beautiful forms of flora and fauna which abound in the State. On this
day we can also launch appropriate initiatives for making our people realise the
manifold benefits which accrue from implementing conservation programmes.
He noted that the existence of wildlife makes a valuable contribution not only
to promote and strengthen ecological welfare but also enhances social,
economic, scientific and educational aspects of sustainable development.
Governor has suggested that the celebration of
this year’s theme- “Big cats: predators
under threat”- should be gainfully utilized
to create awareness particularly about those species which are facing varied
threats i.e. the lion, tiger, leopard, jaguar, cheetah, snow leopard, puma and
clouded leopard. He appealed to one and all, young and old, to join hands for
all required steps being taken to protect the habitats of the varied wildlife
species which are speedily disappearing.
