New Delhi, Mar 28: Anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare's hunger strike against non-appointment of Lokpal and on the issue of farmers' distress entered the sixth day on Wednesday, amid buzz that there had been a sharp deterioration in his health.
According to sources, Mr Hazare had lost about five kilos after six days of fasting. His blood pressure shot up to 188-100 though other health parameters were normal, the sources said.
On Saturday, Anna had affirmed that he would continue with his protest despite the deterioration in his health.
Mr Hazare, who went on a hunger strike after nearly seven years, was upset by the non-appointment of Lokpal and Lokayuktas at the Centre and in the states.
The ambit of the protest also included farmers rights, implementation of Swaminathan Commission recommendations, minimum support price and loan waivers for farmers.
Mr Hazare kicked off his hunger strike on Friday after he paid homage to Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat.
On the first day, Mr Hazare targeted the Centre over the issue of fair price fixation for farmers produce and said ryots were under distress as they were not getting the right prices for their produce.
He said he would continue his hunger strike till a concrete plan was in place regarding these concerns.
Delhi Police has scaled up security in view of the revived movement. UNI
