New Delhi, Mar 29: Senior Congress leader and former Rajya Sabha MP Shantaram Naik has demanded that the chairman of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) should be sacked and, if found criminally negligent or responsible, he should be put under arrest.
In a statement issued here, Mr Naik, who is presently the President of Goa Pradesh Congress Committee, said, 'the CBSE Chairman should be sacked and if criminally responsible or negligent, he should be put under arrest and, the entire matter of paper leakage should be handed over to Central Bureau of Investigation.'
Mr Naik said that negligence of Union Government towards the education system was clear from the fact that the two Union Ministers -- Mrs Smriti Irani and Mr Prakash Javdeker -- who handled the Human Resource Development Ministry, were interested only to paint the policy with saffron colour and had not been able to come out with the new policy.
'The Prime Minister who is doing his regular exercise of addressing students and who is now shedding crocodile tears, should hold himself responsible for criminal delay in finalising the new education policy," Mr Naik said.
He said that the government should, not only identify the provisions of law which can be invoked in order to inquire into, investigate and prosecute those who are involved in this shocking crime, but should also put the case on a fast track.
Mr Naik said since the New Education Policy is under preparation, necessary recommendations should be made in the policy to curb the menace of paper leakage.
'The government should make a fair and transparent investigation into the matter to find a way wherein innocent students are not punished for no fault of theirs,' he said. UNI
