New Delhi, Mar 31: State-run oil company Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), will supply the petrol and
diesel meeting stringent Bharat Stage VI emission norms (BS VI) fuel at all its
187 retail outlets in the National Capital Territory (NCT) from tomorrow.
Besides IOC, Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd (BPCL) and Hindustan
Petroleum Co. Ltd will also supply the BS VI fuel at all their petrol pumps
from 1 April.
"The BS VI fuel supplies in Delhi have been advanced from the April 1, 2020 target rollout for the entire country to tackle air pollution," IOC’s new Director-Refineries BV Rama Gopal said at a media briefing here on Saturday.
“We are upbeat for the rollout of Euro VI grade fuel in all of the 187 IOC retail outlets in the National Capital Territory (NCT) from tomorrow. It is a big challenge but it is only a beginning,” Rama Gopal said.
He said on April 1, 2019 about 1013 retail outlets of IOC in NCR and metro cities will ready to supply the cleaner fuel.
With this, the sulphur content in the fuel has been reduced from 50 ppm to to 10 ppm maximum, which will facilitate reduction of sulphur oxide emission from vehicles and this measure is expected to mitigate the issues of environmental concerns, he added.
The IOC official said the supply of BS-VI fuels from Mathura and Panipat refinery was started from January 22 and February 8 respectively to IOC’s Bijwasan and Tikrikalan terminals.
He also said that technology will help the country meet the goal of 10 per cent reduction in import bill by 2022. Rama Gopal also clarified that introduction of electric vehicles will not lead to stopping refineries as they are being introduced in cars and not commercial vehicles. UNI
