Lucknow, Mar 3: Art Of Living founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar's effort to resolve the Ayodhya
issue through mutual talks floundered on Saturday when his main Muslim partner
and sacked leader of the AIMPLB Maulana Salman Nadvi disassociated himself from
the consultations.
All India Muslim Personal Law Board leader, Maulana
Salman, who was the main partner from the Muslim side in the talks initiated by
Sri Sri on Ayodhya, said," The matter is sub-judice and everyone should
wait for the Supreme Court order on the issue.'
It was said that Maulana Salman had proposed March 28 as the date for meeting of the Hindu and Muslim leaders in Lucknow to discuss a mutual agreement but the deliberations have apparently run into rough weather.
Retired senior Uttar Pradesh bureaucrat Anis Ansari, who was also present during the meeting between Maulana Salman and Sri Sri in Lucknow on March 1, told UNI here on Saturday that the move of the Maulana was a setback to the effort of Sri Sri.
"I had a telephonic talk with Sri Sri yesterday and he, too, was upset by the sudden move of the Maulana who took an U-turn within 24 hours," Mr Ansari said.
Mr Ansari ,however, said that they were yet to talk to Maulana Salman over the sudden change of mind." We have tried to contact him, but he was unavailable," the senior bureaucrat said.
On Friday, Salman had stated, "I disassociate myself from the Ram Mandir issue. We will wait for the judgement of the court. I will only return to the AIMPLB, if four persons, including Asaduddin Owaisi and Kamal Farooqui, are removed."
On March 1, spiritual guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, who has been trying for a solution to the Ayodhya dispute through mediation, met Mr Nadvi in Lucknow.
"Our efforts are on towards success and the response from all sides is very good. We will continue the efforts. We are talking of maintaining love and harmony between the two communities and for a grand Ram temple," the 'Art of Living' founder said, after the meeting.
To a question on a possible backlash from the minority community over his efforts to find an out-of-the-court settlement on the vexed issue, Sri Sri had said, "There is a lot of goodwill and cooperation from the Muslim side."
In February, the AIMPLB had expelled Nadvi, who had declared that shifting of the Mosque was permissible.
During the recent general body meeting of AIMPLB in Hyderabad, many of the 500 participants had demanded that Mr Nadvi be removed from the board. The board's spokesman had termed his statement as unacceptable and made in his personal capacity. UNI
