Lucknow, Feb 8: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has slammed the Samajwadi Party-led opposition for disrupting the Governor's address during the joint session of the state legislature on Thursday.
"The SP members and other opposition indulged in anarchy in the state Assembly during the joint address of Governor Ram Naik and it was a threat to democracy," Mr Adityanath said while interacting with the media after the address.
The CM said that by disrupting the address, the Opposition tried to block the achievements of the government meant for the poor. "Such act of the opposition is deplorable," he commented.
Hitting out at the SP, he said that the people who were wearing red caps in the House would be taught a lesson by the people in future.
Meanwhile, leader of the opposition and SP leader Ram Govind Choudhury countered the CM saying that red caps symbolised India's independence, while saffron stood for British supporters.
"The BJP should clarify their role during the independence movement. Everyone knows how the RSS people mingled with the Britishers to hamper the movement launched by the freedom fighters," he alleged.
Claiming that the present BJP president was anti-people and was only interested in communal politics, Mr Choudhury said that it was unfortunate that this Yogi government was even interfering with the traditions by changing the name of Kumbh Mela.
The SP leader did not even spare the Governor saying that how could he address the government's achievement when he himself had said a few days back that Kasganj incident was a blot on the state government. He also said that for the first time, the Governor did not reach the Assembly at 1100 hrs and was late to address the joint session.
Congress legislature party leader Ajay Kumar Lallu too said that the Governor's address was nothing but a bundle of lies of the BJP government. He said that the government, during its one year rule, do not have any achievement but in the address it tried to fool the people of the state. UNI
