Srinagar, Feb 2: Train service in Kashmir valley was suspended on Friday for security reasons, following 'Shopian Chalo' call by separatists to express solidarity with the families of civilians who died in security force firing during the past two weeks.
'We have suspended all train runs in the Kashmir valley after a fresh advisory was received from police last night not to operate the train,' a senior railway official told.
He said therefore no train will run on Badgam-Srinagar to Baramulla track on north Kashmir. Similarly, all train runs between Srinagar-Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region have been cancelled for security reasons.
This was the ninth time the train service remained suspended fully or partially in the Kashmir valley this year.
'We are acting on the advice of state administration and police,' he said, adding that rail authorities have no role in it.
Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL), comprising separatist leaders Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq and Mohammad Yaseen Malik, has given call to express solidarity with the families of civilians who died in Shopian district during the past two weeks. UNI
