Shillong/Kohima, Feb 27: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday urged the people of Meghalaya and
Nagaland to vote in large numbers in the Assembly elections.
"I urge the people of Meghalaya and Nagaland to vote in
large numbers in the Assembly Elections taking place today," the PM
tweeted.
The polling which began early this morning in are underway in both the states amid tight security arrangements.
In Meghalaya, polling is underway in 59 constituencies out of 60 assembly seats at 3025 polling stations.
A total of 361 candidates are in the fray of whom 31 are women and 80 independent candidates. The fate of these candidates would be decided by 18,12,440 electorates of the state.
In Williamnagar seat, the Election Commission is yet to fix the date where a candidate of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Jonathone Sangma was killed in an IED blast.
The results of both the states would be announced on March 3 along with Tripura. UNI
