Panaji, Feb 7: Goa
Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Wednesday sought time to react over Supreme
Court's decision to cancel all the 88 mining leases renewed by state government
recently.
However, he said that there was no cause for panic as the
government had at least one month time to take a decision.
Addressing a press conference following a cabinet meeting at state Secretariat at Porvorim near the city, he said,"At this moment, according to my information, nothing is applicable upto March 31st. .....There are number of issues. I have already one month."
When quarried further, the Chief Minister said, " I would not comment unless I go through it (order) and find out what exactly it is and what should be done."
He said very soon a formal statement would be issued by his office.
The Supreme Court on Wednesday set aside the mining lease renewals granted to several miners by the Goa government. The apex court order has come as a big setback for the mining companies in Goa. There were a total of 88 mining lease renewals allowed by the Goan government. UNI
