25 last under the theme ‘Accessible Elections’ wherein the first time registered
voters including 41 millennium voters (those who born on January 1, 2000) across Nagaland were
felicitated.
Mr Sinha said the first time the department has identified Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) of different categories in the electoral roll like locomotors disability, speech & hearing disability, visually impaired and others. They shall be given priority entries in polling stations to cast vote without waiting in queues.
Even other unidentified PwD voters shall be given priority entries provided they produce Disability Id Cards to the presiding officers. Also octogenarian and older voters, pregnant women voters identified by Anganwadi workers and women voters with babies in arms shall be given precedence over other voters for casting votes, he said.
Mr Sinha said people of Nagaland has seen unprecedented campaigns carried out in
favour of free and fair election popularly called as ‘Clean Election Campaigns’ in recent past where various churches bodies, NGOs and students’ organizations have held rallies, adopting resolutions and pledges.
"The Department is hopeful that, with support and cooperation of all stakeholders, we can improve our performance this time. The future voter students of classes 9 to 12 are appealing their parents or guardians to exercise their franchises responsibly through ethical and informed ballot decisions on day of poll," he said.
The ECI targets to increase the qualitative participation of the electorate in terms of ethical and informed voting and of providing continuous electoral and democracy education to the people so that electoral malpractices and corrupt practices including inducement of voters and resorting to use of muscle and liquor influences by candidates and political parties in electioneering are done away with.
The Voters should abstain from inducement like cash, gift, liquor or community feast
organized for campaign purpose during election process as the receiver is also punishable with one year imprisonment and fine under Section 171B of Indian Penal Code.
The Voters may collect evidence of malpractices, capture such photos, videos, audios of malpractices and to upload on DEO’s website or CEO’s website and the control room or inform authorities by any other means confidentially so that action may be taken against such malpractices.
"In view of above, we appeal the people of Nagaland to consider the available options and participate in this election in a free and fair manner so that our democracy is strengthened, the CEO added. UNI
