Srinagar, Feb 2: Chairman of both the factions of the Hurriyat Conference (HC) Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq remained under house arrest to prevent them from joining the “Shopian Challo” march on Friday.
The Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) consisting of Geelani, Mirwaiz Omar and Yaseen Malik has given Shopian challo to offer Friday prayers in a Jamia Masjid there before holding a rally against the civilian killing during the past about two weeks.
However, despite raids at several places, Malik gave slip to security forces and managed to reach Jamia masjid Shopian. It was however, not clear how he managed to reach Shopian despite unprecedented security arrangements in the district, where all roads have been closed since early this morning.
The security forces have now further tightened cordon around the masjid to prevent people from entering the worship place though about a dozen locals are also inside with Malik, reports reaching here said.
Meanwhile, security forces and state police personnel remained deployed outside the residences of Geelani and Mirwaiz who are under house arrest. Both the separatist leaders are not being allowed to move out of our homes, the JRL spokesman said. UNI
