New Delhi, Feb 2: Congress members in the Rajya Sabha on Friday disrupted the Question Hour over
Deputy Chairman P J Kurien ignoring a senior member standing with a placard in
the Well of the House.
The matter was raised by Congress member B K Hari Prasad who
requested Prof Kurien to ask the protesting member K V P Ramachandra Rao to
take his seat. Mr Rao, who held a placard that read 'Save Andhra Pradesh', did
not pay heed to him.
A visibly upset Prof Kurien said the member was not listening. 'He is standing as a bodyguard to me. Let him.'
At this some Congress members protested loudly saying the Chair should not refer a member as his bodyguard.
'This is indiscipline of the highest order. I have asked him to sit down. He has not given any notice. In the morning he was blocking the Chair. On his subject let him give notice,' Prof Kurien said.
When Mr Rao stayed unmoved, Prof Kurien again remarked that he did not even mind the Chair. 'If you have some sense go to your seat. People will be sad for sending him here,’’ he said as he continued the Question Hour.
A couple of Congress members walked up to Mr Rao requesting him to return to his seat but he remained adamant.
The member was seeking implementation of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014. UNI
