Kailashahar (Tripura), Feb 8: The CPI(M) has lashed out at the BJP for playing politics and hatching a "well orchestrated conspiracy" to defame the Left Front regime in Tripura saying it was unbecoming of country's ruling party to have sabotaged jobs of 10,023 school teachers and also inking pact with a group that sought division of the state.
"These are not expected from a party that claims to be nationalists....In the run up to this year's assembly elections in Tripura, the BJP 'destroyed' jobs of 10,023 school teachers and also tied up with a tribal group which wants to carve out a separate homeland for tribals," CPI(M) Unakoti district secretary Bishwaroop Goswami told UNI here.
The 'Bharatiya Jumla Party', he said in a sarcastic note, has resorted to sheer populism on the eve of elections and while preparing for this year's elections they "conspired" to act rather "mercilessly" against the 10,023 school teachers.
"Without conspiracy and well crafted plans.....such a development vis-a-vis teachers and their alleged 'faulty appointments' cannot happen," he said adding - however he does repose immense faith in the judiciary.
"One need not blame the courts....But the plot was created outside the courts and in a political realm," Mr Goswami said adding the basic Left intention to help "need" with the jobs has not been appreciated and rather presented in a poor light.
"The appointments norms for school teachers is in effect since 1978....There was no violation of norms under the Left Front regime. We have been following the system under which Needy, Seniority and Merit ought to be followed," he tried to explain.
To a question, he denied outright that the teachers' appointment issue can hamper the scope of state Education Minister Tapan Chakravorty, who is seeking re-election from Chandipur.
"There can be no problem....We are winning the seat as the BJP candidate Kaveri Sinha is best known only as the wife of local unit BJP chief Ranjan Sinha."
The Marxists' regime under Manik Sarkar, which has run the Tripura government since 1998, has faced numerous allegations of corruption as with its ministers accused of nepotism and favoritism.
A court order has indicted the communists' regime for the faulty appointment of 10,023 primary school teachers.
Obviously, the corruption-free administration attracts ordinary voters, say common citizens here.
Answering questions, the CPI(M) leader said the intent of BJP is never to help the school teachers who lost their jobs.
"From our party side, we tried to protect the interests of the affected teachers. New posts were created but things have again gone sub judice...I have nothing much to say," he said.
Ridiculing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's repeated assertions of Congress-free India campaign line, the CPI(M) leader said "It is all meaningless as BJP's list of 51 candidates for Tripura assembly include about 30 per cent of ex-Congressmen and women.....So essentially, there is only old wine in an old bottle," Mr Goswami said.
He said BJP's candidates list include six sitting MLAs who were elected in 2013 on Congress ticket and later changed their party.
"Moreover, their list include former Congress leaders like Surojit Dutta, Ratan Chakravorty, Subal Bhowmick contesting from Sonamura and Manoj Deb from Kamalpur," he said.
To a question, Mr Goswami said BJP's tie up with the Indigenous People's Front of Tripura (IPFT) is a serious issue as the tribal group had advocated the division of the state.
"In contrast, the CPI-M and the Left Front's focus for this year's polls is peace with communal harmony, development and no compromise on ensuring the integrity and unity of Tripura as a state," he said. UNI
