New Delhi, Feb 9: Amid a surge in high-profile crimes by youngsters in recent times, the Supreme
Court on Friday asked all state governments to set up child welfare boards.
The direction came on a petition seeking a direction to
implement effectively the 2000-enacted Juvenile Justice Act.
A division bench, headed by Justice Madan Bhimrao Lokur, ordered that the direction be sent for implementation to all states concerned.
The apex court also directed that all vacant positions in juvenile justice courts be filled up at the earliest.
Detailed arguments from the Centre, state governments and other respective parties precluded the Supreme Court order.
One, Sampurna Behura, had sought implementation and immediate direction to effectively implement the Juvenile Justice Act. UNI
