Dehradun, Feb 7: At least 10 people were killed after a jeep, ferrying passengers, skidded off
the road and nose-dived into a deep gorge in Champawat district on Wednesday
morning.
According to sources, the jeep en route Pithoragarh from
Tanakpur, veered off the road near Swala village and fell into a 600 metre deep
gorge at 0630 hrs. While nine passengers died on the spot, one succumbed to his
injuries in the hospital. The deceased includes two women and a child.
A police and State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) teams have reached the spot and launched a rescue operation.
