Srinagar, Jan 18: Traffic on the national highway, the only road linking the Kashmir valley with the rest of the country, was resumed on after remaining suspended Wednesday night due to slippery road conditions following fresh snowfall.
Meanwhile, dozens of far-flung and remote villages, including those near the Line of Control (LoC), were cut off with their respective district headquarters in north Kashmir districts of Kupwara and Bandipora following closure of the Sadhna and Razdan passes due to fresh snowfall.
The national highway, connecting Ladakh region with Kashmir and historic Mughal road remained closed.
'We have allowed two-way Light Motor Vehicle (LMV) traffic from both Srinagar and Jammu on Thursday while Heavy Motor Vehicle (HMV) traffic will continue to ply on one-side only,' a traffic police official told.
Traffic on the Kashmir highway was suspended last night due to slippery road condition following fresh snowfall at North portal Jawahar Tunnel, he said, adding that road had also became slippery at Qazigund sector. Traffic was suspended as precautionary measure to avoid any accident, he said.
He said LMV traffic was now being allowed from both sides on the highway. However, HMV traffic will ply from Srinagar to Jammu today and no vehicle, including security force convoy would be allowed from opposite direction at any cost.
Since road widening and repair work was going on at several places on the highway, heavy vehicles will continue to ply from one way only till further orders, he said. UNI
