Delhi, Jan 24: The Election Commission of India has announced bypoll in
Bijepur assembly constituency in Odisha, which will be held on February 24.
The assembly seat fell vacant, following the death of sitting
Congress MLA Subal Sahu, who died on August 22, 2017 due to illness.“After taking into consideration various factors like local festivals, electoral rolls, weather conditions, the Commission has decided to hold the bypoll on February 24” the Election Commission said.
According to Election Commission notification, the last date for filing nomination is February 6 and the last date for withdrawals of papers is February 9. The counting and announcement of the results will be done on February 28.
The model code of conduct for the bypoll was enforced with immediate effect in the districts in which the areas of assembly constituency falls, the Election Commission said. UNI
