New Delhi, Jan 24: Metropolitan Magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh on Wednesday remanded to five-day police custody, Manoj Jain, the owner of the firecracker storage unit in Bawana area, where 17 people were killed in a massive blaze.
It was alleged that a fire in the storage unit on the ground floor of the two-storey building ripped through the structure on January 21 killing 17 persons, including 10 women.
Counsel for prosecution argued that an FIR has been registered under the provision relating to culpable homicide not amounting to murder and negligent conduct with respect to fire or combustible material defined under Indian Penal Code.
Police submitted that the factory stored 'cold firecrackers' used in stage shows and Holi celebrations and custody of the accused was required for further investigation in the case.
The 49-year-old owner of the factory was arrested on 21st January in connection with the fire tragedy. UNI
